What is Fermented Hot Sauce?
Alright bab, so what the hell is fermented hot sauce? Think of fermentation as giving your sauce a bit of magic. It’s all about letting chillies, salt, and other tasty ingredients relax and mingle for a bit, usually a few weeks, in order to create something special.
During this time, bacteria (the good kind of course!) do their thing, breaking down sugars and transforming the chillies into tangy, flavour-packed goodness. Proper bostin' stuff!
There are no artificial ingredients, fermentation relies on nature's processes to create the ultimate preserve and humans have been using this technique for many generations.

Fermented vs Regular Hot Sauce: What's the Craic?
The OG, ie our regular hot sauce, blends top-quality chillies, with other ingredients, and then bottling it straight away for maximum flavour. Since we use just natural ingredients, our sauces are always fresh, tasty, and hand-made by us in small batches. This is obviously good stuff, but using fermentation techniques, as opposed to artificial ingredients, we are now able to bring you a hot sauce, with deeper, richer flavours, a tangy kick and even more additional health benefits from those lovely gut-friendly probiotics! Winner!
What does Probiotic-rich hot sauce taste like?
Think tangy, zingy, and slightly funky (in the best way!), with a fuller, deeper unique flavour compared to your usual sauce. It's like your standard hot sauce went on holiday and came back a bit more interesting. The fermentation process brings out some totally different flavours.
Is Artisan fermented hot sauce better for you?
Absolutely! Artisan fermented hot sauce is packed with probiotics, which are brilliant for your gut health. So, not only do they taste amazing, but they are actually good for you too. Plus, since we only use natural ingredients (no dodgy additives here), our hot sauces are top-notch from the get-go. Want to dig deeper into the health perks? What Are The Health Benefits of Naturally Fermented Hot Sauce?
So we know that fermenting is good for you but exactly how? Here are a few insights:
- It’s Good for Your Gut – Fermentation creates probiotics, the friendly bacteria that keep your gut happy and digestion smooth.
- It’s Packed with Vitamins – Chillies are already loaded with Vitamin C and antioxidants, but the slow-aging process helps preserve and supercharge these nutrients, meaning an extra boost to your meal, as well as an extra kick of heat!
- It’s Easier on the Stomach – Some hot sauces can be a little harsh, but fermentation breaks down tough compounds in chillies, making the sauce gentler on your digestive system. Great for those who miss using regular fire in their food
- All-Natural Goodness – The process is an all-natural process and therefore good for your stomach. These slow-brewed hot sauces contain live cultures, preserving the most nutrients in your hot sauce.

Can Slow-Fermented Chilli Sauce Improve Gut Health?
Yes! Regularly eating fermented foods—like kimchi, sauerkraut, and yep, live-cultured Pips Hot chilli sauce, has been proven to help maintain a healthy gut microbiome. A happy gut can lead to better digestion, stronger immunity, and even improved mood (yep, your gut and brain are closely linked so feel great and eat your favourite hot sauce!).

Breakfast Ideas
If you are an avocado toast type of person then a few drizzles on top is perfect. Are scrambled eggs more your thing? Then adding a few drops in whilst cooking is a must! I would steer away from hot sauce on your cornflakes, however, but I have heard of a few nutters adding it to their Weetabix, so… do you dare?! (I certainly don’t!).
Pips Pro-tip: If you love hollandaise, you will thank me forever if you add fermented hot sauce to your eggs benedict for a spicy breakfast. It will wake you up faster than an espresso!
Lunch Ideas
For a little something different (and to sneak in some of that extra goodness), I love adding a splash of Pip x Attic Brewed Fermented Hot Sauce to my salad dressings. Just mix it with olive oil and lime juice...yum! It also works brilliantly drizzled into wraps or spread onto sandwiches for an instant flavour upgrade.
If you are a fan of hot soup on a cold day then what better addition is to splash some fermented hot sauce for that extra umami layer?

Why Pip x Attic Brewed Fermented Hot Sauce Stands Out
Alright bab, here's our origins story for this sauce. I am pretty chuffed about this particular hot sauce of ours and the positive responses stunned us! When Pip’s Hot Sauce and Attic Brew Co. joined forces, we knew something tasty and original was about to happen. But I have to be honest, my first reaction was panic!
However, I knew this collab wasn’t just about chucking chillies in a bottle and hoping for the best. It’s been a carefully designed collaboration that's brewed with patience and passion. I've tried beer sauce before, and the hoppy bitterness isn't something I like with chilli sauce. I had a small test jar of ingredients I'd set aside, fizzing away, as an experimental fermented sauce and thankfully it tasted bloody amazing!
We have used Pips Hot Sauce’s years of experience in the game and absolutely love for all things spicy, small batch and quality and combined it with the folks over at Attic Brew Co. They have been perfecting the art of craft beer with absolute character. So what happens when you mix the best of fermentation, fire and flavour? You get the ultimate hot sauce!
It's the perfect balance of heat & depth. It has a unique acidity that cuts through the heat and draws out unusual flavours. It’s got a good kick but isn’t just about burning your face off. The complex flavours mean you can taste every note, from smoky heat to citrusy tang. Plus it's all natural quality ingredients too!
